Fall events, wine fest, varsity soccer, Veterans Day coming up

The longest-lived big event in Oviedo is coming this Saturday with Great Day in the Country. Get out and enjoy that and more fall events this weekend.

As the Thanksgiving season kicks off, check out local fall events in your town this week and beyond, including high school theater, live music, Great Day in the Country, Veterans Day remembrance and more. 

Thursday 

Calling all Jeep drivers: The Oviedo Jeep Club will be hosting their Oviedo Jeep Club Monthly Social from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at Gator’s Dockside Oviedo, 106 Zamora Place. Members will receive a 15% discount if they wear their club shirt or dog tag. Members are also encouraged to bring nonperishable food for the holiday food drive. Learn more

Enjoy a date night at a painting class from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at Calliope Street, 1400 Oviedo Mall Blvd. in the Oviedo Mall. The cost to participate is $35 for adults, $27 for young artists ages 13-17, and $25 for kids ages 8-12. Participants must reserve a spot to attend. Learn more

Sip on a variety of wines at a Fall Wine Fest from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at Spill Wine Bar, 1196 Tree Swallow Drive in Winter Springs. This event is free to all Wine Club members who RSVP and costs $15 for general admission. Learn more.

Friday

Come watch the production The Haunting of Hill House” by the Oviedo High School theater department at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 9-11, and matinee showings at 2 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Nov. 10-11. This production is an adaptation of the gothic horror novel about the intense psychological study of human behavior and persuasion by Shirley Jackson. Tickets cost $7. Learn more

Bring the whole family to a paint party from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at Songbirds Music, Art, & Dance Center, 181 E. Mitchell Hammock Road in Oviedo. The cost to attend is $15 per parent and child. Children must be 6 years old or older to participate. Learn more.

The Army Aviation Association of America is holding a Central Florida AAAA Social from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Froggers Grill and Bar, 27 Alafaya Woods Blvd. in Oviedo. The admission fee is $10, which covers beer and wings. Learn more.

Great Day in the Country
The Great Day in the Country event will be on Saturday, Nov. 11 at CrossLife Church in Oviedo.

Saturday

Come out to one of Central Florida’s biggest fall events, Great Day in the Country, hosted by the Oviedo Woman’s Club, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at CrossLife Church, 45 W. Broadway St., in Oviedo. Attendees can shop from hundreds of vendors for jewelry, furniture, artwork and more. There will also be entertainment and food. Learn more.

Spruce up your greenery with new plants. The Oviedo Garden Club will be hosting a plant sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Oviedo Triangle, which is at the corner of Broadway Street and Aulin Ave. All proceeds from this event are used for grants to support local environmental education, conservation and civic beautification. Take your car to Oviedo Cars & Coffee at 9 a.m. at Rock & Brews Oviedo.

Car enthusiasts can show off their cars at Oviedo Cars and Coffee from 9 a.m.- noon Saturday Nov. 11 at Rock & Brews Oviedo, 7131 Red Bug Lake Road in Oviedo. This event is open to cars of all years, makes and models and has brunch, outdoor seating and is pet friendly. Learn more

Celebrate Veterans Day on Lake Jesup with airboat rides at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Black Hammock Adventures and Airboat Rides, 2329 Palm Drive in Oviedo. There will be two-for-one margaritas, food and live music by Dake Ikin. Reservations are required for airboat rides. Learn more.

Honor our country’s heroes at the Winter Springs Veterans Day Tribute from 6-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Winter Springs Town Center Veterans Memorial, 1160 W. State Road 434 in Winter Springs. Captain Laurel Ross will be honored as this year’s Hometown Hero for her military service and dedication to Winter Springs’ community and veterans. Learn more.

Observe Veterans Day with the City of Oviedo and American Legion Post 243 at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Oviedo on the Park’s Veteran Tribute, 305 Center Lake Lane. New veterans will be added to the tribute. Learn more.

Sunday

Take part in a free Pure Barre pop-up class from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Sunday Nov. 12 at The Factory Bar at The Food Factory Foodie Collective, 888 City Walk Lane in Oviedo. Attendees are asked to reserve a spot and arrive 15 minutes early. There will be refreshments and snacks after class. Learn more.

Hosting any fall events of your own? Create your own succulent pumpkin centerpiece with Bomb Blooms from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12 at Spill Wine Bar, 1196 Tree Swallow Drive in Winter Springs. Grab a bite to eat to make a difference at Oviedo’s Food Truck Monster Jam from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12 at Center Lake Park, 299 Center Lake Lane. Join Oviedo Social for their Wine Down Business Social from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15 at The Local Hen Oviedo, 940 City Plaza Way in Oviedo. Relax and spend the night at Oviedo’s Movie Night in the Park for a showing of “Grease” at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 at the Oviedo Amphitheatre, 357 Center Lake Lane. Take part in four rounds of live pub-style trivia with the Five Minute Professor from 7-9 p.m. every Monday at Rock & Brews, 7131 Red Bug Lake Road in Oviedo. Questions cover topics such as history, geography, pop music, TV shows, science, nature, movie stars and space travel. Prizes are given every week, and a raffle takes place the last Monday of every month. Enjoy happy hour before and after trivia.

Foster healthy living habits and youth development with Homeschool Physical Education for kids ages 5-17 from 3-4 p.m. every Monday through until Nov. 27 at the YMCA Family Center, 7900 Red Bug Lake Road in Oviedo. One month of classes costs $25 for YMCA members and $50 for non-members. Participants must bring closed-toe shoes. Learn more.

Dementia-Friendly Dining is every Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. at Perkins Restaurant, 701 E. State Road 434 in Winter Springs; every Wednesday from 2-5 p.m. at the Town House Restaurant, 139 N. Central Ave. in Oviedo and every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 p.m. at Pepe’s Cantina, 3100 Alafaya Trail. in Oviedo. Families and friends may bring their loved ones who are living with dementia to a friendly, safe, and enjoyable meal. Learn more.

Take a break from fall events with a run through Oviedo’s historic downtown every Tuesday night with Oviedo Run Club. Most folks who attend this casual, social run start the run just before 6 p.m. Participants start in the parking lot of Oviedo’s Historic Celery Pre-cooler, located at 159 N. Central Ave. and run the distance of their choice along the Cross Seminole Trail. New members get a free T-shirt. Learn more

Join Oviedo Brewing Run Club’s Tuesday night run from 6:30-10 p.m. at 1280 Oviedo Mall Blvd. Participants gather at the front of Oviedo Brewing Company every Tuesday evening and start the run at 6:30 p.m.

Adventure Cycling offers two night bicycle rides a week. Enjoy a No Rider Left Behind ride for the whole family from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights. Learn more
