Our mission and values
Purpose
To empower our readers with the information they need to help shape their community, to hold the powerful accountable. To serve the community, including those who have been historically underrepresented, with trustworthy, local news so that everyone can feel more connected to where they live.
Vision
The Oviedo Community News team is working toward a more empowered, engaged and connected community where residents are informed by a reader-sustained news source that’s completely independent of special interests for many generations to come.
Mission
To create a better-informed, more empowered and connected community by providing independent, public-service local news that focuses on issues that residents say matter to them.
Values
Independence: Ethical journalism that puts answering the needs of the people it serves above all else
Equality: Access to local information should be a right, not a privilege
Integrity: When we make promises, we keep them. When we make mistakes, we own up to them and do what we can to make it right.
Transparency: We do not take telling the story of the community lightly. You’re trusting us to provide information that you use to make important decisions. You should know who we are, how we operate and who funds our work.
