Mucarsel-Powell, a 53-year-old Democrat from Miami, is running for the U.S. Senate. She is a senior advisor at Giffords, an organization advocating for gun safety. Prior to this role, she was an associate dean and director of development for Florida International University.
Mucarsel-Powell was a U.S. Representative from 2019 to 2021, during which she sponsored bills in favor of equal pay, Covid-19 safety in schools and voter protection.
