National Day of Prayer starts at First Methodist Church of Oviedo’s Lee Chapel and runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., May 7 at 263 King St. Learn more.

The Florida’s Fallen Memorial is being installed in the Oviedo Cemetery, right across the street from Post 243.  The Memorial has over 400 crosses, representing Floridians who have died in military service for our Country since Sept. 11, 2001.  The individual crosses have names, military branch, rank, hometown, casualty date, age, photographs, and awards.  The Memorial also includes flags of our military branches and large crosses representing the major campaigns from American history. The memorial will be staffed daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. starting Sunday, May 17. It will remain in place for two weeks through May 30. Volunteers requested! Learn more.

Honor the fallen troops who protected the United States with Taps at Sunset. Taps is a signal performed at the end of the day to honor those who served. The event starts at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 25 at Center Lake Park, 299 Center Lake Lane. Learn more.

Head to the Oviedo Mall to celebrate the City of Oviedo’s Independence Day for America’s 250th birthday. The Food Court stage will feature live performances from Oviedo’s School of Rock and the University Performing Arts Center with Ziegfried Follies. Throughout the mall, history comes to life with revolutionary Minutemen walking the crowds, a Town Crier, Betsy Ross, Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington. Explore a full Military Walk Through Time from the Revolution to Space Force presented by the American Legion, plus a Civil War camp re-enactment, face painters, balloon artists, stilt walkers, and more. There will be a re-enactment of the signing of the Declaration of Independence at 7 p.m. and at 8 p.m. head outside to set up for Central Florida’s largest fireworks display.
