What’s happening this weekend—”The Twitches”

See the movie “The Twitches” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 at the Oviedo Amphitheater at Center Lake Park, 299 Center Lake Lane in Oviedo–as part of The City of Oviedo’s Movie Night in the Park. Show an Eventbrite registration ticket to Flippers Pizza and receive a buy one large, two topping pizza, get one free deal (available for dine-in, curbside pickup, carryout or delivered to the movie). Food and concessions will be available at the movie.

Friday night football: The Winter Springs Bears play Lyman High School at 7 p.m. at 865 S. Ronald Reagan Blvd. in Longwood. The Hagerty High School Huskies play Colonial High School at 7 p.m. at 6100 Oleander Drive, Orlando. The Oviedo High School Lions play Sanford Seminole High School at 7 p.m. at home—601 King Street, Oviedo.

Go treasure hunting at Oak Forest’s community-wide garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Oct 15-16 near Tuskawilla Road and Central Ave. in Winter Springs.

Traditional German food, an outdoor biergarten and games marks Oviedo Brewing Company’s third annual Mall-toberfest, starting at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15th at 1280 Oviedo Mall Blvd., Oviedo. Dogs are welcome. Get more information.

Get your pumpkin for Halloween at the Tuskawilla United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch from 3-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17 at 3925 Red Bug Lake Road in Casselberry. Get more information.

Go on a guided Swamp Walk through the Spring Hammock Preserve Wilderness Area from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16. Wear long pants and closed toed shoes and bring bug repellent, water and a towel for this muddy adventure. Participants must be 10 years or older and must register. The cost is $3 per person.

Enjoy a bounce house, slide, music, games, food, prizes and a dunk tank at the All American Fun event benefiting Winter Springs resident Robbie Poe’s battle against brain cancer. If local art, live music and food and drinks are your thing, visit the Winter Springs Festival of the Arts, happening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16-17 at the Winter Springs Town Center, located near the intersection of State Road 434 and Tuskawilla Road. Megan is co-founder and editor-in-chief of Oviedo Community News, the only independent news source for Greater Oviedo and Winter Springs. She oversees editorial content, policy and staff. She attends meetings, sends out the e-newsletter and curates conversations in the community to understand the information gaps that OCN needs to fill. She also works to create partnerships that can strengthen the bond between community and newsroom.

She has served as an award-winning community journalist for more than 20 years, including as associate editor for the East Orlando Sun and a reporter for the Seminole Voice, the Winter Park-Maitland Observer and Orlando Magazine.

In 2024, Megan was named Editor of the Year by the Society for Professional Journalism. With the Central Florida Foundation and Central Florida Public Media, she co-found the News Collaborative of Central Florida, a collective of independent local news outlets and aligned partners working toward a more informed and engaged Central Florida.

She served as treasurer for the Florida Press Club for seven years and has won awards from the Institute for Nonprofit News, the Florida Press Association and the Society of Professional Journalism. Megan holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism (now called the Reed College of Media) at West Virginia University.

Megan also loves yoga, running and playing board games with her family.
