The Historic Oviedo Colored Schools Museum was given a donation from the Goldenrod Historical Society in the amount of $9,318.13 recently.

According to the organization’s president, Judith D. Smith, “this amount will go a long way to helping us to complete our project, the renovation of the St. James A. M. E. Church/Gabriella Colored School.”

The organization’s mission is to tell the amazing story of how former African American slaves in America, and their descendants, moved from regions where they were enslaved. They sought employment, and more than anything else, a means to educate their children. The miracle of how they accomplished that monumental task amidst unimaginable barriers is at the heart of what we do.
