What’s happening this weekend—tons of trunk or treats, a ghost hunt and a costume party at Black Hammock

This event has been cancelled due to weather: The City of Oviedo combines food trucks, trick-or-treating and Jeeps at its Jeep-O-Ween event from 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at Center Lake Park, 357 Center Lake Lane, Oviedo. Wear your Halloween costume and enjoy a trunk-or-treat with the Oviedo Jeep Club. Bring a blanket and chairs for a picnic from the following food trucks: Rollin Dough, Bell’s Kitchen, Chameleon Bowls, Churros and Cream, Nonni’s Minis, Rosario”s Kitchen, Amish Pretzel Shop, and The Hook. Hunt ghosts and seek out-of-this-world phenomena at the Museum of Seminole County’s Haunted Tours, running hourly from 6-9 p.m. Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 28-31 at 300 Eslinger Way in Sanford. Check out the Winter Springs High School Theater Company’s production of “Shipwrecked! The Amazing Adventures of Louis DeRougemont.” The show runs nightly at 7 p.m. from Thursday, Oct. 28 through Saturday, Oct. 30 at 130 Tuscawilla Road in Winter Springs. A costume party, dancing and drink specials make up Black Hammock’s Halloween Party, which starts at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 at Black Hammock Adventures & Airboat Rides, 2356 Black Hammock Fish Camp Road, Oviedo. Get more information here.

Friday night football: The Hagerty Huskies play Lyman High School at 7 p.m. at 865 S. Ronald Reagan Blvd. in Longwood. The Oviedo Lions play Lake Mary High School at 7 p.m. at 655 Lake Mary Road in Lake Mary. The Winter Springs Bears play Spruce Creek High School at 7 p.m. at 801 Taylor Road in Port Orange.

Ride the Spooky Mansion Slide, navigate a haunted maze, ride a haunted train around Center Lake and enjoy swan boat rides, carnival games, food trucks and music at the City of Oviedo’s Halloween Festival of Frights from 5-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday Oct. 29-30 at Oviedo on the Park, 357 Center Lake Lane, Oviedo. Megan is co-founder and editor-in-chief of Oviedo Community News, the only independent news source for Greater Oviedo and Winter Springs. She oversees editorial content, policy and staff. She attends meetings, sends out the e-newsletter and curates conversations in the community to understand the information gaps that OCN needs to fill. She has served as an award-winning community journalist for more than 20 years, including as associate editor for the East Orlando Sun and a reporter for the Seminole Voice, the Winter Park-Maitland Observer and Orlando Magazine.

In 2024, Megan was named Editor of the Year by the Society for Professional Journalism. With the Central Florida Foundation and Central Florida Public Media, she co-found the News Collaborative of Central Florida, a collective of independent local news outlets and aligned partners working toward a more informed and engaged Central Florida.

She served as treasurer for the Florida Press Club for seven years and has won awards from the Institute for Nonprofit News, the Florida Press Association and the Society of Professional Journalism. Megan holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism (now called the Reed College of Media) at West Virginia University.

Megan also loves yoga, running and playing board games with her family.
