Family-owned restaurant closes doors due to effects of pandemic

De La Vega restaurant is closing its location after four years in Oviedo’s downtown area, Oviedo on the Park.

The family-owned restaurant was created by two siblings who came from Mexico City – Mano and Nora De La Vega.

The Latin food restaurant was known as a place to enjoy live music and celebrate with family and friends.

The De La Vega staff told Oviedo Community News “Unfortunately, we are shutting down as of today, due to Covid back pay of rent from 2020. We are very sad not to be able to benefit our community anymore.”

A couple of minutes later, they announced the news on their social media platforms that they were consolidating their restaurant due to the lasting effects of the pandemic.

They said that they will be concentrating on their catering business and launching a division of online to-go meals this summer.

Even though their Oviedo location is closing, their original location in DeLand will remain open.

Some of the followers reacted to the news of the restaurant’s closing by thanking them for their service.

“Noooooo! This is extremely sad news!” Carla Marie, a follower of De La Vega’s Instagram page, wrote. “Thank you for all the wonderful memories.”

In their post, they also wrote they were grateful for all the support of the Oviedo and Hispanic community.

“We are so grateful to the Oviedo and Hispanic community in the surrounding areas who supported our concept,” the De La Vega post said. “We had a blast serving and entertaining you. Please visit us in our location in DeLand, an upcoming community that is already a great player in arts, music, and culinary experiences in Central Florida.”
