Quick takes — Future projects in Oviedo

Plans for the demolition and reconstruction of the Alafaya Square Publix, located at 81 Alafaya Woods Blvd., are underway. The Oviedo City Council approved the project’s architectural plans on Monday night. Publix still must submit official site plans to the city for approval by the Council at a later date.
The project will include two exterior murals, but developer Randy Holihan had no details to share on those yet.
Shane Kelly Park, on the corner of County Road 426 and Lockwood Road will soon get a concrete walking trail, new benches and exercise stations.
The $400,000 project will be largely funded by a U.S. Department of Transportation and Florida Department of Environmental Protection grant. The City of Oviedo will pay $80,000 of that price tag. Council approved the project Monday night. The city anticipates starting work on this project within six months.
