A potential Walmart store and additional development near Winter Springs neighborhoods has city officials expecting “a very large turnout” at the first informational meeting to discuss the matter Tuesday.
The development in question is expected to be submitted for the area at the northwest corner of where State Road 434 meets S.R. 417, near the edge of Winter Springs city limits. The development proposal, expected to include a Walmart store and potentially a hotel, storefronts, townhomes and additional development, would be within the area the city had set aside for a high-tech industry corridor along S.R. 434, mirroring the type of development of the Research Park area that’s just south of the University of Central Florida.
On July 11 Deputy Mayor Kevin Cannon explained the intended use of the area to the potential developer. “Land uses within the district shall be limited to targeted industry uses,” Cannon said.
“If the city’s vision is to have 100% of this be office buildings, I think it’s going to take a lot longer,” Equinox Development President and CEO Ryan Stahl said ahead of submitting expected formal application paperwork.
Get involved: The informational meeting about the potential project will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 at The Foundry Church, 1491 E. S.R. 434, Winter Springs. The next Winter Springs City Commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8 at City Hall, 1126 E. S.R. 434, Winter Springs.
