Want to wish Oviedo Olympian Jenny Simpson well?

‘Keep the energy coming,’ says retiring Hagerty coach Jay Getty

Oviedo Olympian Jenny Simpson is showing “encouraging improvement” after being hospitalized earlier this week.

Three-time Olympian Jenny Barringer Simpson of Oviedo collapsed during a run Tuesday in North Carolina. She needed CPR, and an automatic external defibrillator was used.

Simpson was appointed as the Chief Running Officer for Fleet Feet earlier this year. Fleet Feet’s CEO was on the run with Simpson.

“While Jenny remains under medical care, she has shown encouraging improvement and continues to exhibit the strength and resilience that have long defined her,” Fleet Feet wrote in a statement on Instagram. “True to form, she has already asked about her mile time and whether she won.”

Hagerty High School Athletic Director Jay Getty coached Simpson. In a statement to Oviedo Community News, he asked people to keep showing Simpson support.

“Thank you to everyone for joining our collective energy in support of Jenny,” Getty wrote. “Again, keep the energy coming!”
