Local events this week – local football, a book signing, and a spirit animal quest

Thursday

Cheer on the Oviedo High School girls volleyball teams as they take on Lyman High School starting at 4:30 Thursday, Sept. 7 at OHS, 601 King St. Learn more.

Boost your fitness routine with Rise N Grind’s $5 Express Classes event, happening Monday-Friday, Sept. 4-8 at Rise N Grind Oviedo’s Boutique Fitness, 379 E. Treat yourself to a parents’ night out by dropping off the kids at Science Night Live from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 at the YMCA, 7900 Red Bug Lake Road in Oviedo. This event is for children ages 5-11 to enjoy educational activities and dinner, which is included in the registration cost. The cost is $25 for YMCA members and $40 for non-members, with $10 off per sibling.  Learn more.

Bring your furry friend to the grand opening celebration of Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1799 E. Broadway St. in Oviedo. Try a music class for babies and young children during a free trial running Wednesday-Friday, Sept. 13-15 at Songbirds Music, Art, & Dance Center, 181 E. Mitchell Hammock Road in Oviedo. Classes for kids ages 1-5 are on Wednesdays from 10:30-11:10 a.m., Thursdays from 11-11:40 a.m. and 5-5:40 p.m. and Fridays from 10-10:40 a.m. The class for babies ages 6 weeks to 1 year is from 11:30-noon. Foster healthy living habits and youth development with Homeschool Physical Education for kids ages 5-17 from 3-4 p.m. every Monday through until Nov. 27 at the YMCA Family Center, 7900 Red Bug Lake Road in Oviedo. Run through Oviedo’s historic downtown every Tuesday night with Oviedo Run Club. Most folks who attend this casual, social run start the run just before 6 p.m. Participants start in the parking lot of Oviedo’s Historic Celery Pre-cooler, located at 159 N. Join Oviedo Brewing Run Club’s Tuesday night run from 6:30-10 p.m. at 1280 Oviedo Mall Blvd. Participants gather at the front of Oviedo Brewing Company every Tuesday evening and start the run at 6:30 p.m.
