Oviedo Medical Center, part of HCA Florida Healthcare, announced today that it has received the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades, the No. 1 site Americans use to find a doctor or hospital. This is the sixth year in a row Oviedo Medical Center has received the prestigious award, which reflects the hospital’s commitment to safe, patient-centered care and puts the facility in the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for patient safety.
Alongside this national recognition, Oviedo Medical Center was recently recognized by Healthgrades as a five-star recipient for exceptional clinical outcomes in several categories including treatment of hip fracture, total hip replacement and sepsis.
“Oviedo Medical Center is honored to be recognized by Healthgrades for our commitment to patient safety and high-quality patient care,” said Cameron Howard, CEO, Oviedo Medical Center. “These achievements serve as a meaningful reminder of our team’s dedication to delivering compassionate, individualized care at every step of a patient’s journey.”
Oviedo Medical Center’s achievement is based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes. To determine the national leaders in patient safety, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted complication and mortality rates from approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide across 13 patient safety indicators, each representing a serious, preventable complication. Patients treated at Oviedo Medical Center and other award-winning facilities had a profoundly lower risk of experiencing several leading complications.
“The data behind this year’s Patient Safety Excellence Award highlights how measurable improvements in safety can prevent thousands of complications,” said Dr. Alana Biggers, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades. “By prioritizing evidence-based safety practices, Oviedo Medical Center is achieving better clinical outcomes and cultivating a culture where patients come first.”
